Military Presence (MCAS Cherry Point, Havelock NC)

Havelock is home to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, one of the nation’s largest military bases, covering roughly 29,000 acres of southeastern Craven County. Commissioned in 1942, MCAS Cherry Point currently provides support facilities and services for the Second Marine Aircraft Wing, houses facilities for training and supporting the Atlantic Fleet Marine Force aviation units and is designated as a primary aviation supply point. The base is also home to the Navy’s Fleet Readiness Center-East, which is the largest industrial employer in Eastern North Carolina. With more than 4,000 civilian, military and contract workers, its annual revenue exceeds $1 billion. In addition to these military hubs, many veterans successfully transition to civilian careers with the opportunities Craven County provides.
